Host and Bike

Not a typical hotelier

A proverb says: “many roads lead to Rome”. And that’s how it was with hotelier Markus Gamperli. First he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. He then continued his education until he had graduated from the St. Gallen building polishing school. Gamperli earned his spurs in the construction company of his father Karl Gamperli. During these years he attended the entrepreneurship training of the Swiss trade associations.

Architect Karl Gamperli built a tennis hall with a restaurant in Untervaz station in 1982. The company grew steadily. By the end of 1988 the family had expanded the business with a dining room, squash courts and a three-star hotel. In 1994, Markus Gamperli then switched from the construction industry to the hotel industry. He took over the management of the Hotel-Sportcenter Fünf Dorf and successfully completed further training as a federal operations manager level 2 in the hospitality industry.

Petrol in the blood

At the age of 20 he bought his first motorbike, a Yamaha DT 125. He and his friends “curved” through the mountains of Graubünden and thought he was going to impress the “girls”!? Family and job no longer allowed the hobby of motorcycling. Only when his three children Marco, Nico and Dominic were older did the idea of a nice, fat bike germinate again. At the age of almost 40 he fulfilled a dream. Gamperli bought a Harley Davidson Fat Boy. This bike quickly had to be “pimped” a bit. The Fat Boy received a new paint job and was provided with beautiful attachments. When driving, the thoroughbred hotelier quickly missed the group feeling. The local Harley club “Grischa Chapter” offered itself. Fully motivated, from then on he enjoyed driving with friends and being together comfortably. Since the community was very important to him, he took on the position of “Assistant Director” in the motorcycle club and is very happy to be involved in club life. In 2012, a “machine” was needed that allowed a little more leaning in the curves – a Buell Lightning XB12S Long. Since then Markus not only enjoys the comfortable cruising but also the fast cornering.

Gämperli knows almost all attractive tours in Central and Eastern Switzerland. As an “insider”, he is happy to pass on his tips. He also maintains contact with other motorcycle clubs and workshops in the region. So he is the ideal host for his motorbike guests.

Markus and his motivated team live by his guiding principle:

Come as a guest and leave as a friend!

We look forward to welcoming you as a motorbike guest and will do everything we can to ensure that you spend an eventful and comfortable motorbike holiday with us.
